On Oct. 16, 2019, Christian & Small Partner Michael A. Vercher secured a full summary judgment on behalf of an electrical engineering firm in a federal lawsuit pending in the Northern District of Alabama.
In a written opinion, U.S. District Judge Haikala dismissed claims against the engineering firm brought by a college student resulting from his entry into an electrical enclosure housing a building’s transformer bank on the University of Montevallo campus. The Court ruled that the student was unable to establish a casual link between any alleged action or inaction on the part of the electrical engineering firm, represented by Christian & Small, and the damages claimed by the student. The student suffered severe electrical burns, and he is claiming permanent brain damage in the claims that remain pending against members of the University of Montevallo’s staff.
