Christian & Small is proud to announce that Managing Partner Deborah Alley Smith has been nominated to run for President-Elect of the Birmingham Bar Association (BBA). Voting for the 2019 slate of nominees will take place online from Dec. 3 through Dec. 7, 2018. Birmingham Bar Association members may also vote in person at the Bar Association building (2021 2nd Avenue North, Birmingham, AL 35203) the morning of Dec. 7.
Smith’s history with the Birmingham Bar Association is active, long and varied. She has served on its Executive Committee and as Secretary/Treasurer of the BBA and on many BBA committees and task forces, including: CLE Committee, Fee Arbitration Committee, Grievance Committee, Bulletin Committee, Diversity & Inclusivity Committee, Education Committee, Land Bank Task Force (Chair), Bar Building Task Force, Task Force on Bar Organization, Women Lawyer’s Section – Leadership Development Committee Chair, Future Leaders Forum Committee (Chair), Mentoring Committee – Mentor.
Additionally, she has worked with the pro bono and philanthropic arms of the Bar, including service on the Board of Birmingham Bar Volunteer Lawyers Program, and as its Board President, and serving on the Board of the Legal Aid Society of Birmingham. She also served on the Board of Directors for the Birmingham Bar Foundation (BBF) for many years, and as its President, President-elect, Secretary and Treasurer. For a number of years, Smith chaired the BBF’s Oral Arguments program that provides high school students a glimpse into how our legal system operates.
“It would be the highest privilege of my legal career to follow in the footsteps of my partners Tom Christian, Clarence Small, and the late, legendary Bibb Allen, Ed Elliott and Richard Ogle,” Smith said. “I would appreciate your consideration as you cast your vote, and I look forward to working together for the betterment of our Birmingham Bar Association.”
