Jonathan Blocker__gray__245x343Christian & Small is pleased to announce that Jonathan M. Blocker has joined the firm as an associate focusing on areas such as professional liability and medical malpractice, construction, aviation, liquor liability, and cyber and data breach liability matters.
“I am excited to join Christian & Small. Being fairly new to Birmingham, I feel privileged to continue and grow my career surrounded by a talented group of attorneys,” Blocker said.
“Christian & Small will benefit greatly from the addition of Jonathan to our practice,” Managing Partner Deborah Alley Smith said. “He possesses a strong drive to learn and excitement for community involvement, characteristics we seek in all of our associates.”
Previously, Blocker was an associate attorney at Page, Eichenblatt & Bennett, P.A. in Orlando, Fla., and served for three years as an assistant state attorney for the Office of the State Attorney, Ninth Judicial Circuit of Florida. Working in both Orange and Osceola counties, he prosecuted hundreds of criminal cases and more than 30 jury trials to verdict for crimes of violence (including sexual assault, child abuse and domestic violence), burglary and drug trafficking.
Blocker graduated cum laude with a B.A. in psychology from Morehouse College and a J.D. from the University of Florida, Frederic G. Levin College of Law. He is a member of REV Birmingham’s Young Professionals and has served as a mentor with the College Bound Success program for teens. Formerly, Blocker worked with the YMCA Teen Achievers Young-in-Government program, where he coached students for annual moot court and legislative competitions. He has held leadership roles with the Paul C. Perkins Bar Association and the Orange County Bar Association Foundation and is currently a member of the Alabama State Bar, Birmingham Bar Association and Magic City Bar Association.
